Paraspinally Located Schwannoma from a dorsal root of a spinal nerve 3

چکیده
Case Description: Here we illustrate the case of a 34-year-old woman with a paraspinal lesion 12 presenting with severe lumbar pain. There were no focal sensory or motor deficits. Magnetic 13 resonance imaging (MRI) disclosed a nodular lesion embedded in the paraspinal lumbar musculature, 14 suspicious of tumorous growth. Complete surgical excision of the lesion was performed with clear 15 margins and neuropathological analysis revealed a Schwannoma. Postoperative imaging confirmed a 16 gross total resection with no recurrence after 6 months. 17

Activation of neurotrophins in lumbar dorsal root probably contributes to neuropathic pain after spinal nerve ligation
Objective(s): Neurotrophins (NTs) exert various effects on neuronal system. Growing evidence indicates that NTs are involved in the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain. However, the exact role of these proteins in modulating nociceptive signaling requires being defined. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of spinal nerve ligation (SNL) on NTs activation in the lumbar dorsal ...
متن کاملGiant Spinal Schwannoma in a 76-year-old Woman--A Case Report.
A schwannoma is a benign nerve sheath tumor composed of Schwann cells. Spinal schwannoma originates from dorsal roots of the spinal cord, causing symptoms due to the compression of neighboring structures. We present a patient with a low back pain and left L2 and L3 radiculopathy. Neuroimaging techniques (CT, MRI) showed a large expansive mass in the left lumbar paraspinal area. The tumor was re...
متن کاملUltrasonographic Features of Schwannoma of the Lower Limb: Two Case Reports
Schwannoma is a benign encapsulated nerve sheath tumor. It typically develops in middle age with unknown cause and usually involves spinal root and peripheral nerves. We report two cases of schwannoma presenting as palpable mass over lower limbs. Both masses had heterogeneous hypoechogenicity, faint posterior enhancement , and were located eccentric to a nerve fascicle. Preoperative sonography ...
متن کاملAn extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation mimicking L4 schwannoma.
OBJECTIVE We herein describe a case with an extraspinal mass distorting the right L4 dorsal root ganglion. Initially presumed to be a nerve root schwannoma, the lesion turned out to be a free disc fragment. METHODS AND RESULTS A 46-year-old woman presented with a history of mild low back and intense right leg pain. The leg pain was like electrical discharges. Right knee extension was weak tog...
متن کاملTotally cystic intradural extramedullary schwannoma.
Totally cystic intradural extramedullary lesions are uncommon and form a different spectrum of conditions as compared to the commonly seen intradural extramedullary tumors. Spinal schwannomas are benign tumors arising from spinal nerve root sheaths and are the most common intradural extramedullary spinal tumors. Though cystic changes in schwannomas are well described, most spinal schwannomas ar...
